Walkiees is a great new site for dog walkers looking for dog friendly walks!
The website has been set up by a Detector Dog Handler for the UK Border Force, (formerly HM Customs & Excise) and as a mobile regional resource, they would regularly be deployed to various locations across the south of England. Many of these deployments involve overnight stays in unfamiliar areas, and it had always proved difficult finding a nice, safe place to walk a dog. When looking on the internet, and nothing really seems to fit the bill, "Walkiees" was created!
The site has been built from scratch over the past three months, and launched last week.
At present there are only a limited amount of walks listed at the moment. However with new members joining each day, more and more walks will be added!
Recognising that part of the fun of dog walking is going out and exploring places for yourself, the site tries not to get too specific with the actual routes, and more so point out a 'starting point' or area.
The site is completely free to use, and does not require a membership, but people will need to register to be able to add your walks or comment/bookmark a walk/save as a fav. Adding a walk is pretty quick and straightforward with a simple Add A Walk form.
The owners of the site are also offering a little incentive to motivate people to add their walks. Theywill be donating £1 to the Dogs Trust for every walk that gets added to the site, so get adding!!!
