On Sunday 20th March Big Walkies visited their “stomping ground” Hinchingbrooke Park. The walk was a monthly walk organised by Big Walkies but also aimed to raise £100 for Red Nose Day.
The Management Team at Big Walkies were amazed at the amount of people who turned up at Hinchingbrooke Park to walk with them. It is approximated that just fewer than 60 people and at least 25 dogs joined in this weekend. The majority of those were registered members and others have been joining up since the walk.
The walk was not without its drama’s with Ziggy, owned by Ella and Mandy McKenzie of Cambourne, decided to have a little swim in one of the lakes with one of the swans! Thankfully Ziggy returned to the shore after a worrying 20 minutes of swimming, we may enter her into the 2012 Olympics!
Radio station Cambridge 105 fm were there to interview members of the group and it is anticipated that the recordings will be aired this week.
The event raised over £100 for Comic Relief with money still being donated via the “Smile for Big Walkies” campaign.
Events are being organised, online, for the remainder of 2011 – with at least one event per month.
Big Walkies organise walks with mental and physical health benefits for the local community and its dogs. The walks carefully chosen so that they are fully accessible to all members of the community.
