We're sad to announce that the 12th June will be the last Big Walkies in Suffolk organised by Mary-Ann from Holiday Dogs, but we wish Mary-Ann all the best.
We have had some lovely feedback from our members in Suffolk who would dearly love to Big Walkies in their community to continue.
The reason for this blog is that we cannot do this work without a volunteer coordinator. If you would be interested in organising and coordinating Big Walkies walks in Suffolk - please do get in touch!
Below is a little more detail of what we can do to support volunteer coordinators and what Big Walkies would expect of you. The frequency of walks is entirely up to you as the volunteer coordinator.
Aims and Principles
Big Walkies rely on volunteers to plan, corrdinate and evaluate walks in local communities across the UK.
Volunteers will contribute to the organisation by providing events that improve a sense of community in their local area and improve that community and their dog’s physical and mental health.
Volunteers are the core of Big Walkies. Without them we wouldn’t exist. We value all volunteers.
Statement of intent
This section shows how Big Walkies will commit to their volunteers:
Big Walkies and your role within it
As a Big Walkies volunteer coordinator you are expected to plan, coordinate and evaluate events/walks in your local area at least once per month.
You are expected to:
The support you can expect from Big Walkies
We are happy to risk check a walk for you. In order to do this we will need a minimum of one months notice of the event.
We will provide 24-7 support (excluding holidays) via the phone.
You will be provided with Big Walkies business cards.
Big Walkies will promote all events on their website, twitter and your local press. You are not expected to write any press releases – however some of your walk evaluation may be used in press statements.
Recruitment and selection
This section describes the recruitment and selection process:
As we work remotely and support our volunteers over the internet we are limited to an online induction.
However we are currently looking to training events during weekends.
We will send our volunteers information of training events across the UK, which we are currently unable to pay for.
Support and supervision
Your main point of contact is: Becca Bryant (07970547650) or Jackie Fitzpatrick (07801591148) or email@example.com
We are available on our mobile phones and via email (unless on holiday).
At present we are unable to reimurse volunteers for their expenses. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer coordinator in Suffolk or any other area - please do get in touch
